History of Mutaflor
- Discovered in 1917 by Professor Alfred Nissle.
- Subsequent research showed that this strain of E. coli Nissle 1917 has a large number of beneficial qualities and is helpful therapeutically and prophylactically in inflammatory and functional bowel diseases.
- North American rights obtained by Medical Futures, Inc., and INOVERA Bioscience, Inc. selected as US distributor in 2010.
Properties of Mutaflor
- E. coli strain Nissle 1917 helps to establish health promoting gut flora by acting against pathogenic bacteria.
- Stabilizes the intestinal epithelial barrier
- Regulates the gut-associated lymphoid tissue (GALT), areas of the gut containing large amounts of immune system cells.
- E. coli strain Nissle 1917 also has gut motility regulating properties.
